While photographing my latest addition to my Loser's Photo Album, I was reminded of an encounter I had with a much younger and nice-looking man who is employed at the gym I frequent.
Not being an overtly flirtatious gal, I was caught unaware one day when he gave me a nod, and said "Hey, come closer, I've been meaning to tell you somethin'." So I went up to the counter and he said, "Lady, whatever you be doing, keep on doing it....It's workin'!"
Excuse Me?
"Whatever you be doing, keep on doing it," he repeated. "Oh yeah?" I replied with a coy smile, "l do a whole lot of cardio!" And then he gave me a wink..."I have been meaning to tell you that you are one of the finest looking women who works out here....You're just the kind of woman I go for, you know, blond and with a little extra paddin."
Insert screeching brakes sound here.
Which brings me back to what I was photographing for my Loser's Photo Album. If you want a little extra "paddin," take a peek at my oldest and one of my very earliest, nearly-but-not-completed FO's. It is from a pattern courtesy of Rebecca No 25. The thing is, I should have known that it is one of those projects that fits into the "Knitted Bikini Category." You know, the kind of
knitted item that seems like it will look just spectacular in theory, but in practice, it sags in the butt, keeps falling down and is, well, a total fashion no-no.
(By the way, that guy at the gym? He's not my type but a compliment is a compliment.)

I love that skirt- great colors, it's a shame that it doesn't fit better (although I think it looks great in the picture). You've gotta love guys who don't really hear the words as they're coming out of their mouths, or while they're forming in their heads.

See, I do like the skirt and the fit looks fine from that angle, but I would never attempt those colors. I could see where they could make my butt look like a Giant Used Car Tent Event. It takes both Butt and Nerves of Steel to wear that, and I have neither, but I still like the skirt. But I'm thinking in soft beachy blues and tans, something more forgiving, it's a nice pattern.
LOL re the gym guy. Men don't always "hear" what they are saying before it escapes their mouths, but obviously it was meant as a sincere compliment, and you should take it as such.
Great blog! I found you via the legendary Chicknits, where you are getting a spotlight.

Catherine, you don't know how many shots I took to get the most flattering angle! The colors I choose are gosh-awful but I was stuck because all I could afford at the time was Lion Brand Cotton Ease and those were the colors in stock. I thought it might have come out with more of a Coco Chanel flair, but I forgot that Coco wouldn't dare wear a knitted skirt, either!

LOL! Great gym story and cute skirt.
By the way...there's NOTHING wrong with a "little extra padding".
REAL women have padding, and it looks GREAT on us. Just look fit and not dumpy.
As my auntie used to say:
"Only a dog wants a bone."

Okay, I am struggling with a skirt myself right now (from the SnB Nation book) and after making the "size-appropriate" version and discovering it was big enough for Kirstie Alley, I am remaking it as a small.
But after reading your tale of woe, I wonder if I should even bother! Perhaps a knit skirt is just a plain bad idea. Who wants a saggy-bottom girl look?
Gotta say - love the colors.

Thanks for all your funny comments!
Tanya, DON'T knit the skirt, even if it is a free pattern. If you must knit it, do it with cheapo yarn!

I like your skirt. Any chance that you could seam it and add a draw string waist of some tasteful, nosnstreatchy ribbon so that it wont fall off? Just a thought.
