Fad-Classic

Fadclassic1I think I say this in the pattern notes, but the green part?  That's the fad part. Because, let's be real, there's no way that color green could sustain us for even a half-season. But for now, it is sensational. Honestly. It is simply great. (I even bought a fabulous green purse the other day. I'm using it as much as possible, because, well, you know, before I know it, POOF! Bye bye green. Hello purple! Hello yellow!...and so on.)

The classic part has to do with the vest. The vest has been with us for as long as the years will reveal and there are so many ways you can wear one. If you're cold, wear it under something like a nice linen jacket. If you're not, wear it over a t-shirt like the way I'm wearing mine. Or, go ahead and wear a camisole underneath. I designed it so your undergarment straps will be hidden.

The stitch pattern hints of "crochet," but it isn't. It is a simple, four-row/round repeat. Plus, the vest is knit from the top down, and in the round, so there are no seams. There aren't even any seams on the tops of the shoulders!Fadclassic3_1

Fad-Classic is perfect for an intermediate knitter. If you're an adventurous beginner who knows how to knit in the round and follow and incorporate a stitch pattern, go for it.

I am so excited to knit your vest - just found 8 balls of Svale Dale of Norway in the stash. Woo-hoo!

I really like this vest. When I saw the progress pics I really thought it was crocheted. I think I want to make it out of Calmer so it's more stretchy. I've wanted to use the new Tangerine Calmer color, and I think this vest pattern would be perfect. Thanks for the awesome design!

Wendy, I love your blog, and your patterns. I'm making the "Somewhat Cowl" right now, and love the Blue Sky Alpaca yarn.

Thanks for creating such an interesting and creative site - I really get inspiration from it.

That is SO a year round color. Love the green!

I only wish there was a better picture, so I could really see what it looks like... off to ponder...

Good day, would like to express my frustration, therefore it has some wonderful prescriptions, but unhappyly I do not obtain to know what it means the abbreviations, for example “K”, “P”, ETC. I am beginning, and I only make scarf and cap. It would like to make some prescriptions of this site but I do not obtain due the abbreviations that I do not know what it means. I am of Brazil and if somebody will be able to give to one help I is thankful to me. Congratulations for the creative and wonderful works. Kisses Sandra

i love the pattern...
would this pattern
be easily adapted to
using cascade 220
or superwash yarn?

This vest has exactly the shape and neckline I have been looking for. Here is the question though: Do you think I could use Malabrigo yarn, that's kind of a heavy worsted wt.? Also do you think it would work in plain stockinette stitch?
P.S. I am so enjoying Wincing the night away by the Shins.

fun with diazepam

I heart your glasses. Fan-stash-tic!

hi wendy,

i am almost done with my fad classic and i'm so excited to wear it. i have a question, though, about the neck and armhole ribbing. can you make a recommendation on how many stitches to pick up? i am making the 36" size.

thanks for your help,
jennifer

oh I love this!! You just made me bump some stuff down and put this at the top of my queue.

This pattern has been in my mind for MONTHS! I think I'm finally going to try my first "sweater". I'm gonna go burgundy. Thanks for a great pattern! PS >> I LOVE YOUR BLOG!

I'm sorry if I missed it, but what color # is the green you used for this, I really love the color.

Do you think the new BSA skinny cotton would work well for this pattern?
