Sun out and breeze a-blowing, we got into the car today and headed for the coast. Truth be told, if there were a straight line leading out of our front door to the coast, it'd be maybe a ten mile jaunt, but with all those mountains, it's actually a 20-minute drive on a freeway with Girlfriend singing "Jingle Bells," and a few other tunes I don't really know the name of.
That's okay, though. And although I really needed to get some stuff done (knitting), I opted for relaxing in the car because the last time I attempted knitting in the car, I got car sick. Plus, it's looking like I have a herniated disc in my back and when I knit it intensifies the pain in my left hip and leg. Ugh.
But that's okay; it's alright. Because there's sunshine and enough breeze to go around, and I was thinking I looked sensational in my new sunglasses--with prescription lenses and all.
At any rate, after our lunch, we went to get ice cream for Girlfriend and we spotted a doggie doing a jig. And the woman who was leading him around had a giant Chanel purse and, well, the same sunglasses as me, the ones that the people at my optical joint promised "weren't even in the catalogs, yet."
Next thing I knew, I was whipping those suckers off my nose and pushing them into my purse.
Is it just me? Am I a snob? Or is it I just don't want to have anything to do with a woman who puts slippers on her dog?
(Shoot; you'd think they'd at least be hand-knit.)
Oh man: I can see it now. I'm going to continue wearing these fabulous Chanels only to run into the retired, doggie-leading set who happen to love the same frames. Oy, ugh, ugh, ugh ugh ugh. (Good thing this sort of thing doesn't happen with hand-knit sweaters and other items in these parts.)
BTW: I am so busy with all the knitting and writing stuff. I am spent, spent, spent. BUT not spent enough to go out and give blood so I can afford more yarn. Heh. Just joking, but honestly, what's up with that? On our way to the "coast," I managed to score more than two skeins of yarn--on a Sunday.
Lets face it, friends: Scoring two or more skeins of yarn on a Sunday, during an ordinary drive to the coast, is nearly the same as scoring your particular brand while in rehab.

Oh that poor pooch!

No you are not a snob. Some people are too much!

I would have ditched the glasses too! I feel for the dog...he looks embarrassed.

until I enlarged the first picture of the dog I'd swear it was walking along with a cig in it's mouth.
must need more coffee this morning.

delurking to say ha! i'd do the same; i'd have the glasses off faster than you could say "koigu."
love how you're protecting the pooch's identity. i'm sure he appreciates it too.

The only thing I can think while looking at that silly picture is how totally georgeous it looks there. And I'm wearing a scarf. In my office.

Oh my. But does she have a cool Namaste Bag?? Seeeee! THAT makes you cool!

It cracks me up that you put the bar over that poor dog's eyes too!

hmmm..wonder if there is a pattern for doggie slippers. my dear old mom has been worried about her poor pooches feet...course we are in wy where there is snow and ice so there would actually be a reason to protect the feet..

Is the pup dancing or peeing on the invisible fire hydrant?

that's called 'j-u-n-k-i-e'.

Wendy, I always get that line about glasses are not being in the catalogs yet. Sorry to hear about your disc. If you need help with it let me know. "T" is by far the best spine specialist in so. cal. Oddly enough I have a neck problem right now that he says is from knitting. I declare that can't be possible because it never hurts when I knit!

One word: junkie.
I wish I could offer some help or be your sponsor, but I too am afflicted!

I do understand your discomfort at having the same glasses as the "mommy" of a maltese in fleece slippers; however, the glasses (peaking from behind the blackened privacy bars to protect the innocent) do look lip-smackingly delicious. Just wear them! Consider it your duty to defend Coco's honor . . .

Ah yes. The "everything in my life is adorable" crowd. Even the Nike's I put on my dog. Gag..
But hey, I can't judge. I actually crocheted a sweater for this here dog I'm house sitting with.

Maybe that little dog has problems with his feet? Maybe you just have expensive taste, and rather than thinking you have the same glasses as a woman who puts slippers on her dog, you can think you have the same taste as a woman who clearly has too much money.

In that first shot, at a glance, the dog looks like a little miniature sheep, LOL.
Sorry to hear about your back, hope you feel better soon :)

Dang! You were at Coastal Cone and didn't let me know! ;)

That lady's shoes are all wrong, too! At least you're not wearing those! We know you better than that.
Purse: not all-that, either.
I'm sure the glasses look MUCH better on you!
Score yarn on a Sunday? On my coast, that's un-heard-of....
Posted by: TheSteph | January 08, 2007 at 08:48 AM
I would have done the same. Poor doggie.

Herniated discs are no fun! I hope you get better soon. I tried physical therapy for my herniated disc last summer and it worked well. Plus, I learned better posture!

Sorry to hear about your back. I understand the pain - i've had degenerative disc disease since i was 18. I'm now 27 and the pain has become chronic with lovely shooting, crampy pains in my butt. Fun, isn't it? Hope the herniation heals quickly.
Posted by: amanda | January 08, 2007 at 09:04 AM
Don't worry, we're all afflicted with the same disease. I can also find yarn no matter what time or place... Poor dog, though. I admit I find some dog sweaters cute, butI find the idea of it a little cruel. I mean, I don't even like wearing sweaters (sacriligeous for a knitter, I know!).

It looks like the kid in the second picture is about to attack the slipper wearing dog with his light saber while his father looks on in delight.

That poor dog! Good thing you protected it's identity.
